An application that uses media capturing and voice interaction to encourage the habit of daily journaling.
Defining Problem Area
This project aims to facilitating the habit of journalling and learn how to test the desirability, feasibility, and viability of an idea using the approach of Pretotyping. My target users are those who are not interested in conventional pen and paper journaling and are in search of an alternative journaling experience. As a result, I chose to approach this solution by leveraging on existing technology the identified user group are most comfortable with.
Prioritizing Desired Features
Leveraging MoSCoW methods to identify and prioritize desired features of the product, I was able to focus on areas of priority.
I explored the use of triggers to motivate the performance of the action of journaling. Repeated execution of this action over time creates an investment in the form of entries. With the developed system, users are motivated to make periodic journal entries towards habit formation. In conclusion, a variable reward is offered to retain the use of the application (have the user "HOOKED").
A risky assumptions matrix was used to identify and test desirability, viability and feasibility of the product. I opted for a "fake front door" test as the selected method. Specifically, I created a YouTube video, social media campaigns as well as a six website to observe how intending users interested with the idea of adopting a new new style of journaling.
The desirability of this product was tested using a fake front door pretotyping method and the target was to establish that atleats 6% of people who have personal journals or have interest in journaling will be willing adopt voice and video journaling for making daily entries. The engagement with the social media pages, campaigns as well as website were all measure and this confirmed the hypothesis.
By the end of the experiment, 38 unique visitors had visited the site with 17 of them or 44.74% signing up for the product "SKIN IN THE GAME."
Through this, I was able to establish the viability of the adoption of voice and video journaling through wearables devices.
